A Walk To Remember = New Radicals
Jan 18, 2026

I just finished re-watching A Walk to Remember for the first time in a while.
I’d forgotten how much it makes me cry—and how perfectly cliché it is. I love it so much. I'm not really a big romance movie gal but I had the biggest crush ever on Shane West's character, Landon, and simultaneously, the biggest crush ever on Mandy Moore. It was actually a mix of her character Jamie and Ms. Honey from Matilda that shaped my fashion inspiration. I really honed in on the look for a while: long dresses/skirts with a grandmother cardigan. I mean, I still dress this way, but New York has definitely added some edge to it.
The movie also introduced me to an album that would rapidly become one of my favorites: Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too by New Radicals. Everyone knows the so-called “one-hit wonder” You Get What You Give, but it’s absolutely not a one-hit-wonder situation. The whole album is a one-album wonder. Gregg Alexander? A wonder.
Besides their #1 hit, here are other favs of mine off that album:
Track #1: Mother, We Just Can't Get Enough
Track #4: I Don't Want To Die Anymore
Track #6: Someday We'll Know
Track #7: Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too
Track #9: Gotta Stay High
Lastly, Track #12: Crying Like A Church On Monday
Sadly, this was the band’s one and only album—but not so for Gregg boy who stepped back to work behind the scenes, writing and producing absolute bangers for other artists over the past two decades.
To name a few:
“Murder on the Dancefloor” – Sophie Ellis-Bextor
"Life Is a Rollercoaster" - Ronan Keating
“Put Your Money on Me” – The Struts
“Inner Smile” – Texas
“Lost Without Each Other” – Hanson
“The Game of Love” – Santana feat. Michelle Branch
Absolute bangers!!! Aside from these, he's also written and produced songs for Enrique Iglesias, Rod Stewart, S Club, Boyzone, and Spice Girl member's Geri Halliwell and Melanie C solo work. (There are many more too but this is all I got).
In conclusion, if it wasn't for A Walk To Remember—I wouldn't have known any of this stuff.
Michael who?? Gregg Alexander is the true kind of pop.
